Champagne Marteaux: Pioneers of the Organic Wine Revolution
In the Marne Valley, west of Champagne, you'll find the Guillaume Marteaux winery near the town of Bonneil. For five generations, the family-run winery has been making very interesting wine. Guillaume Marteaux carries on the family's deep-rooted wine tradition and has skillfully developed it further. In the UNESCO World Heritage village, the winery cultivates 8 hectares of vineyards in a natural amphitheater surrounded by hills.
This unique terroir, with a soil consisting of clayey limestone, marl and clay, allows the vines to develop their full potential and produce complex Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines.
The vineyard, located at an altitude of 120 meters with south/southeast exposure, benefits from abundant sunlight and protection from prevailing winds, ensuring ripe and flavorful grapes.
Guillaume Marteaux
After completing his oenology studies in 2003, Guillaume Marteaux founded Champagne Marteaux Guillaume. By expanding operations and integrating innovative methods, Guillaume's passion for the land has driven him to create outstanding champagnes while preserving the terroir. Conscious of his role, Guillaume is dedicated to passing on the land in better condition to future generations.
Inspired by the words of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry: "We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children," Guillaume transitioned to organic farming in 2018.
With the achievement of Ecocert certification in 2022 and Demeter certification in 2023, Champagne Guillaume Marteaux now operates without synthetic chemicals and uses natural cover crops and compost to maintain soil balance.
Thanks to the commitment and decisions of previous generations, the vineyard is healthy, robust and has a natural immunity, ensuring a sustainable future. Although the current cuvées are not yet labeled organic due to certification timelines, they already showcase Guillaume's undeniable talent.
Enjoy these exceptional wines while looking forward to the fully certified organic vintages.
