The story behind Champagne Deutz
Founded in 1838
Deutz was founded by two friends, William Deutz and Pierre-Hubert Geldermann, who both had a passion for the wine trade. Their vision was to create champagnes that combined finesse and complexity. Based in Aÿ, one of Champagne's most prestigious villages, they began building their brand by sourcing grapes from the best vineyards in the region.
Families
Although Deutz was founded by two German-born vintners, the house has always had a strong French identity. For generations, the Deutz family has worked tirelessly to develop their production methods and strengthen their reputation. Today, Deutz is part of the Champagne Laurent-Perrier group, but the original values live on.
Production philosophy
Focus on Quality
Deutz is known for its uncompromising approach to quality. The house only uses grapes from Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards, ensuring that each bottle is made from the finest raw materials. The champagnes are made using the traditional method (méthode champenoise) where secondary fermentation takes place in the bottle. This is a time-consuming process, but it ensures a complexity and elegance that is unmistakable.
Terroir and Sustainability
Champagne Deutz places great importance on terroir - the unique influence of soil, climate and landscape on the grapes. They work closely with winegrowers to ensure the grapes are grown in a way that respects the environment and preserves the land for future generations.
