Producers Champagne Deutz

Champagne Deutz is one of the most recognized champagne houses in the world, known for its elegance, finesse and uncompromising quality. Founded in 1838 by William Deutz and Pierre-Hubert Geldermann in the town of Aÿ in the Champagne region, the house has built a rich history of tradition and innovation.

The history of Champagne Deutz

William Deutz and Pierre-Hubert Geldermann, both vintners from Aachen, Germany, established Champagne Deutz with a vision to produce champagne of the highest quality. Their approach combined traditional methods with a deep respect for terroir, which quickly led to the house wines being recognized for their elegance and complexity.

During the 19th century, Deutz became one of the most popular champagne producers in the UK, exporting almost 600,000 bottles at its peak. Today, however, the main market is the French domestic market. In 1983, the house was bought by the Rouzaud family, who also own Louis Roederer. This acquisition strengthened Deutz’s financial position and enabled further investment in quality and innovation. Since 1993, Deutz has been part of the Louis Roederer portfolio of wineries, which has contributed to its continued success and development.

Vinification and Philosophy

Champagne Deutz is known for its uncompromising approach to winemaking. The house refuses to adopt mass production methods as they consider them incompatible with the traditional craftsmanship needed to make great champagnes. With Louis Roederer’s takeover in 1993, Deutz received the necessary capital to ensure that it can continue to produce champagne of the highest quality, justifying its position among the very best houses in Champagne. Deutz champagnes are known for their characteristic elegant vinosity, which makes them excellent food champagnes. The house wines are understated compared to other producers, but can be found in some of the best restaurants around the world. Range and Signature Cuvées
Champagne Deutz offers a wide range of cuvées that reflect the house’s dedication to quality and tradition. Here are some of their most notable champagnes: Deutz Brut Classic
Deutz Brut Classic is the house’s signature champagne and an excellent example of their style. It has a beautiful golden color with a green tinge and a fresh, floral, almond scent. The taste is pure and rich with beautiful richness and body, finesse and a creamy texture. The extremely elegant finish is completed by a light sparkle. This champagne is suitable as an aperitif or with light fish dishes and seafood. Deutz Rosé
Deutz Rosé is a fresh pink champagne with pink nuances. It has an enticing and vinous aroma of cherries, blackberries, pomegranates and red fruits. The taste is elegant with a fine balance between freshness and complexity, making it ideal both as an aperitif and to accompany red berry desserts. Amour de Deutz
Amour de Deutz is the house’s prestige champagne, made only from the very best vintages. Radiating warmth and love, it is a bottle that almost defines elegance in the world of champagne. It is perfect for special occasions and as an accompaniment to gourmet dishes. Cuvée William Deutz
Cuvée William Deutz is a tribute to the founder of the house and represents one of Champagne Deutz’s best cuvées of the 21st century. It is complex and very enticing, with a depth and richness that makes it an excellent choice for champagne connoisseurs.

Reviews and Recognitions

Champagne Deutz has earned countless accolades over the years and is considered by many to be one of the best producers in the luxury class. Their wines are praised for their excellence and distinctive elegant vinosity, making them great food champagnes. Deutz champagnes are also known for their freshness and focus, with fruity notes and delicate acidity. The mousse is creamy, with small and light bubbles, and the palette includes notes of white flowers, lime zest, lemons, apples and freshly baked bread.
