About the wine

Vietti, Castiglione Barolo 2018 DOCG with delicate balsamic notes of mint and roses on the nose, which quickly develops into deeper fruit nuances of cherry, plum and wild blackberry. On the palate, the wine is both austere and velvety, with a structure that grows with some oxygenation. Castiglione Barolo 2018 has strong, distinctive tannins, crisp acidity and a masculine structure, making it highly age-worthy. Wine Advocate awarded it 94 points, noting its clean and tonic character with wild berry, rose and rusty notes. The Nebbiolo grapes for Barolo Castiglione 2018 come from various small but important vineyards in several municipalities in the Barolo area. The vines are between 10 and 45 years old and are cultivated according to the Guyot system. This diversity in terroir contributes to the complexity and depth of the wine.

After gentle pressing, the juice fermented for around three to four weeks in a steel tank, in contact with the skins. This period included maceration before and after fermentation, involving the traditional submerged cap method. Malolactic fermentation took place in wood.

Aging: Around 30 months in large barrels and a small portion in barriques. Each cru is vinified separately and assembled before bottling.

Producers Vietti

Vietti is located in Piedmont in the Langhe region near the town of Castiglione and was founded by Carlo Vietti. Vietti produces a variety of wines in Piedmont including 5 different Barbera wines and 6 different Barolo wines, but became particularly known for producing wine from the Arneis grape which is a white grape comparable to Viognier. A wine that is still produced today in limited quantities. You can’t mention Vietti without mentioning Alfredo Currado, who married Luciana Vietti in the 1960s. It was he who, to a large extent, made Vietti what it is today through his stubborn interest in the vinification of the Arneis grape and revolutionary thinking about wine production in general. More than 4 generations of Vietti have established its name as a major producer in Piedmont to this day. When the winery was bought by Krause Holding in 2016, the continued development was ensured by adding a number of crus and although Krause Holding is now the owner of Vietti, Luca and Elena Vietti are still in charge of running the winery.
