The Wine House
The 21 hectares of Tenuta di Castellaro are located on the volcanic island of Lipari, north of Sicily. The wild appeal of this magnetic, unspoiled and remote corner of the world enchanted Massimo Lentsch and Stefania Frattolillo, who quickly decided to start a winery in the area. The goal is to produce wines that represent the pure essence of their terroir and preserve, enhance and make the area known for its stunning beauty, while also protecting its traditions. The two entrepreneurs decided to continue the millennial tradition of producing wines from indigenous varieties that have been present on the island for hundreds of years. Together with wine specialists and consultants from the renowned Pépinières Guillaume nursery, which has specialized in high quality wines since 1895, they selected a lot of Malvasia delle Lipari and Corinto Nero vines to plant in the fields. Since then, Tenuta di Castellaro has also become the largest grower of the local Corinto Nero grape.
The work
The work in the vineyard is done with great care and everything in the field is done by hand. The stages of grape ripening are monitored wine by wine and the harvest dates are carefully selected based on what they want to achieve in the final result for the individual products.
Earth
The volcanic soil where the vines grow is a resource of incomparable importance. Volcanic soil varies not only by the origin of the volcano, but especially also by the age of the material produced by eruptions and the time it has taken to solidify. The soil is rich in microelements and minerals.
