Poggerino, Spumante 2016 is a highly complex rosé with subtle notes of peach, cherry and pastry. On the palate, the acidity comes to the fore, highlighting the flavor and emphasizing the wine’s distinctive character.

Vinificering:

The freshly harvested grapes immediately undergo a gentle pressing where the must, without the addition of selected yeasts, starts alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature of 13-15°C, accompanied by frequent battonage to add richness and complexity. Malolactic fermentation is not carried out, which preserves the freshness and acidity of the wine. When spring arrives, the wine is clarified and filtered before the second fermentation. After about 44 months on the lees, disgorgement takes place, where the same wine is used for dosage. The wine then rests for at least 3 months for further maturation before it is ready.

The Poggerino vineyards are located at an altitude of 400-500 meters above sea level with south/southwest-facing exposure. The soil is particularly rich in rock material, resulting from the natural decomposition of the galestro rock. This large amount of rock ensures optimal drainage of the soil. Due to these unique soil and climate conditions, the Sangiovese grape finds an ideal environment to unfold its full quality potential here. The new vineyards are planted from a careful selection of the best Sangiovese clones that bear small clusters of grapes and berries, providing an optimal ratio of skin to must. Approximately 1 hectare of the vineyards are also planted with Merlot.
