Nervi Conterno Gattinara 2020 is an elegant example of Nebbiolo, aged for 36 months in large oak barrels and further matured in bottles for precision and finesse. Nervi Conterno Gattinara 2020 boasts an impressive ruby red color, while its nose offers a harmony of red fruits, dried flowers, and mineral undertones. On the palate, it teases with velvety tannins, marked minerality, and a long finish.

Nervi Conterno uses large barrels between 750 liters and 7600 liters, as well as large cement tanks. Only natural yeast from their own vineyards is used. The malolactic fermentation occurs spontaneously after the alcoholic fermentation. For Valferana and Molsino, wooden fermentation barrels are used. As a standard, Nervi ages these wines for three years, of which two years in barrels, and in recognition of the wine’s noble structure, Nervi chooses to age their Gattinara at least three years in barrels and a full four years for Valferana and Molsino.
Roberto Conterno is the grandson of Giacomo Conterno and the current owner of the house of Giacomo Conterno.
Conterno stands today for some of the finest that Piedmont can deliver in terms of high-quality wine.
Conterno is a beacon for Barolo and Barbaresco wines. Here, wine is made as it always has been, which Roberto Giacomo does not intend to change.
Roberto Giacomo does not use temperature control during fermentation; the wine ferments under the given conditions alone, and there is no use of modern techniques or aids. Subsequently, the wine is placed in large barrels “botti” for up to 7 years.
Barbera d’Alba Cascina Francia ferments for 2-3 weeks and then matures for 2 years in large barrels.
Barolo Cascina Francia ferments for 3-4 weeks and then matures for 4 years in large barrels.
The star at Conterno is Monfortino. This wine is a tribute to the hometown Monforte d’Alba of Giacomo. The Nebbiolo grapes come from Cascina Francia in Serralunga. After 3-4 weeks of fermentation without any control, the wine lies in large barrels for 7 years before being bottled.
Monfortino is not only a star at Conterno but also represents all that Barolo stands for in the most exquisite manner. There is none above or below Monfortino, and Roberto Conterno has shown that the traditionalists in Piedmont still have the upper hand when it comes to sublime quality.
