About the wine

Monviert, Schioppettino Riserva DOC 2018 is a fantastic glass of red wine, especially with game. Schioppettino is one of Friuli’s very own grapes. Also known by the synonym Ribolla Nera, the grape has been known since the 13th century and generally cultivated throughout Friuli. Its reference point is undoubtedly Colli Orientali, where it really manages to express structure and complexity.
It’s definitely not one of the first wines that comes to mind when asked to name an Italian red wine. Perhaps because of the slightly convoluted name. But that’s a shame, because Schioppettino, in the hands of a skilled winemaker, produces incredibly tasty and charming wines. It possesses a fruitiness and elegance reminiscent of Pinot Noir, with an often deep color and juicy, spicy structure. With its light tannins and berry-like juiciness, it is a very versatile food companion.
Monviert grows their Schioppettino on the upper part of the Col Rusal field. The 1.8 hectares of marl and sandstone are exposed to sunlight all day, and the cool winds from Mount Matajur give the grapes an elegant acid structure. Its captivating aroma of spicy dark berries and elegant, juicy and persistent flavor allow us to say without a doubt that Monviert grows one of Friuli’s best versions of Schioppettino!

Producers

Monviert is a love story between the family behind the winery and the surrounding area, Friuli Colli Orientali

An area known for producing some of the very best white wine in Italy.

Monviert was founded back in 1950. The winery was first established under the name Ronchi San Giuseppe, but they later chose to change the name to Monviert, as this name better suited the area where they come from.

The people behind
The Monviert family has lived in Friuli since time immemorial, working the land with the same passion and care since the end of World War II. The vineyards
The name Monviert pays homage to the small church, dating back to 1522, which stands at the top of the hill overlooking the vineyard’s 87 hectares of land and offers a clear, “open” view of the Colli Orientali.

Once a place of worship and comfort for pilgrims, the family has restored the area and turned it into a symbol of cultural wine heritage that they will continue to preserve. Located between the Julian Alps, which protect them from the cold northern winds, and the Adriatic Sea, which brings them the warmth of the Mediterranean breeze, Colli Orientali del Friuli has an ideal microclimate for the production of red and especially white wines.
