Om vinen

Kruger Rumpf – Im Pitterberg GG 2020 Riesling At first impression, Kruger Rumpf – Im Pitterberg GG 2020 Riesling offers a refreshing and crisp taste experience. Notes of citrus fruits and green apples, a pleasant acidity that is perfectly balanced with the fruit. In the mouth, you can feel a prickly minerality that adds depth to Im Pitterberg GG 2020 Riesling. The finish is long and pleasant with a nice mix of fruit sweetness and acidity. The producer has managed to create a wine with a perfect balance between acidity, sweetness and fruitiness. Pitterberg is located south of the city of Münster-Sarmsheim, slightly secluded from the Nahe River. Pitterberg is classified as Erste Lage and in the middle of the field – directly facing south – is the parcel Im Pitterberg, which is classified as Grosse Lage. Of the 4.91 hectares of Grosse Lage, Kruger Rumpf owns the majority and the wines from here are always among the most sought-after and highly prized.

Wine production at Kruger-Rumpf can be traced back to the early 1700s. We are located in the northern part of Nahe, in the triangle between Nahe, Rheingau and Rheinhessen. Today, the winery is run by the young Georg Rumpf, who took over in 2007 and has brought the house into the top league of German wine. Since 1993, Kruger-Rumpf has been a member of VDP (Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter), which is an association of Germany’s quality-oriented wineries with the right to use GG and 1G field designations. Wine is currently grown on 56 hectares and all according to organic principles. The largest part of the vineyards are located in Nahe with plots on fantastic Große Lage sites such as Pitterberg, Burgberg and Dautenflänzer and of course Große Lage Scharlachberg in Rheinhessen. Riesling accounts for the majority of the plantings, but Weissburgunder, Grauburgunder and Spätburgunder are also grown. Georg Rumpf has a philosophy of as little intervention as possible – both in the field and in the cellar. The goal is to produce wines with elegance and “trink-freude” – the desire for another glass. Slate, loess and quartz are the typical soil types and all Kruger-Rumpf wines have a clear and pure minerality, a good balance between richness and fruitiness, clear grape character and a long ageing potential.
