IL Poggione Brunello di Montalcino 2019

Brunello should be powerful, rich and juicy, and this 2019 from IL Poggione is a very good example of what Brunello should be. Notes of ripe red berries, spices and dried roses with well-integrated tannins and balanced acidity. Goes really well with hearty meat dishes and barbecues.

About the wine

IL Poggione Brunello di Montalcino 2019 is a powerful, rich and juicy wine. IL Poggione is a very good example of what Brunello should be. Notes of ripe red berries, spices and dried roses with well-integrated tannins and balanced acidity. Goes really well with hearty meat dishes and barbecues. After the fantastic 2016 vintage, it was thought it would take many years to get similar quality in the vintage, but 2019 Brunello is right up there with 2016.

Il Poggione’s Brunello is made from Sangiovese grapes harvested from their own fields where the vines are over 20 years old. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature for 15 days, after which the wine is transferred to large oak barrels. These barrels, which hold between 30 and 50 hectoliters, ensure an ideal balance between the influence of the barrel and the character of the fruit. The wine matures in these barrels for a period of 3 years before being bottled. This is the traditional method of aging for Brunello. Il Poggione’s Brunello di Montalcino is ready to enjoy upon release, but it also has significant aging potential under optimal conditions

Producers

Nestled in the heart of Tuscany is a winery that has been producing some of the world’s finest wines for over 100 years. IL Poggione, located in Montalcino, is known for its Brunello di Montalcino, a wine that has captured the hearts of wine enthusiasts worldwide. The winery was founded in the late 1800s by Lavinio Franceschi, who had a passion for winemaking and a deep respect for the land. Today, IL Poggione is run by the fifth generation of the Franceschi family, who continue to uphold their ancestral legacy of producing exceptional wines. The winemaker at IL Poggione is Fabrizio Bindocci, who has been with the winery for over 40 years. His knowledge and expertise has been instrumental in maintaining the high standards that IL Poggione is known for. Bindocci believes that great wine comes from a combination of tradition and innovation, and he has implemented modern techniques while still respecting the winery’s heritage. The Brunello di Montalcino produced by IL Poggione is made from 100% Sangiovese grapes carefully selected from the vineyards of the winery. The grapes are hand-picked and then fermented in stainless steel tanks before being aged in oak barrels for up to three years. The result is a wine that is complex, elegant and full-bodied, with notes of cherry, leather and tobacco. What sets IL Poggione apart from other wineries is their commitment to sustainability. The winery uses organic farming methods to ensure their grapes are free from harmful chemicals. They also have a solar panel system that provides energy for the winery and reduces their carbon footprint.
