About the wine

Duval Leroy Femme 2002, Decanter: “Glorious vanilla, peach and buttered apple aromatics. Roasted peach flavors billow across a core of hazelnut, cream, fig and Gala apple. Very long finish. A truly lovely wine that will keep on growing.” Collection Femme is Duval-Leroy’s female flagship. The champagne is a reflection of the close collaboration between the “Lady of Champagne”; Carol Duval-Leroy and her winemaker, Sandrine Logette-Jardin. Duval Leroy, Femme 2002 consists of 95% Chardonnay and 5% Pinot Noir from Grand Cru vineyards. 20% of the wine is barrel aged. No dosage is added. The result is a crackling, crisp and mineral champagne. The aroma offers flowers, dried fruit and nuts. The taste has an incredibly fine structure – like drinking silk. The finish is long and rounds off with an appetizing freshness. Duval Leroy Femme 2002, an exceptional champagne.

Producers Duval Leroy

Duval-Leroy is the last champagne house of its size that is 100% family-owned. The house owns 200 hectares of vineyards, mostly located in the Côte de Blancs region. This includes land in all Côte de Blancs towns with Grand Cru status. They also have long-term contracts for fields and grapes in Montagne de Reims and Vallée de Marne. According to Carol Duval-Leroy, unrestricted access to grapes from the best fields is key to the house’s success. While other producers have to follow the vagaries of market prices when buying grapes each year, Carol Duval-Leroy is confident that she can work with grapes of exactly the right quality and style year after year. Duval-Leroy champagnes are elegant and feminine. Carol Duval-Leroy refuses to pander to American and Asian consumers who want richness and fruit sweetness. She makes dry, aromatic and distinctly feminine wines that are often described as the foremost exponent of elegant champagne. Collection Femme is Duval-Leroy’s flagship. It is produced exclusively in top years and only in very limited quantities. It consists of 95% Chardonnay and 5% Pinot Noir from Grand Cru vineyards. 20% of the wine is barrel aged. No dosage is added. The result is a crackling, crisp and mineral champagne. The aroma offers flowers, dried fruit and nuts. The taste has a magical fine structure – like drinking silk.
