Alsace in France has a place in most hearts and is particularly popular in Denmark and Scandinavia, where its culture and unique landscape have long been home to some of the world’s most respected winemakers. Dating back to 1755, Domaine Joseph Scharsch is no exception and has established itself as one of Wolxheim’s better-known names when it comes to wine production.

Domaine Joseph Scharsch is renowned for growing a number of the most famous grape varieties that thrive in Alsace’s unique climate and soils. This includes classic varieties such as Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir, each expressing their unique characteristics in a sublime way under the expertise of Domaine Joseph Scharsch.

Domaine Joseph Scharsch geeks out on quality at every step of the production process. From the careful harvesting of the grapes to the carefully monitored fermentation and maturation process. At Domaine Joseph Scharsch, they emphasize craftsmanship and traditional techniques to create wines of the highest quality.

The vinifications are carried out in a spirit of continuity with the cultivation of the vines to reveal the best of each parcel in its wine. Fermentations are carried out exclusively with natural yeast on the grapes without the addition of commercial yeast. They are thus slower, less tumultuous and favor the complexity of the aromas. It is also one of the keys to allowing each vintage to acquire its own identity.

The wines are then aged and live off their lees until the following spring. This aging period will allow the wine to “grow” and its different components to blend together so that it can then age well over time.

Today, the Domaine has just over 12 hectares of vines, or 36 parcels, spread across the hillsides of the 6 surrounding villages. This diversity of terroirs makes it possible to grow 9 grape varieties, in locations where they fully express themselves.
